Battery-Creek-High-SchoolBEAUFORT, S.C. – A student at Battery Creek High School in Beaufort has been charged with trespassing, third degree assault and battery, and disturbing schools after he attacked a school resource officer Tuesday.

The unnamed male juvenile student was suspended from school earlier and advised not to return but showed up in the cafeteria where the officer confronted him, sparking an altercation in which the student tackled the officer and another student tried to prevent the officer from using his pepper spray.

The  officer managed to free his arm from the second student’s grip and sprayed both offenders, capturing the first student while the second fled the scene. He was treated for minor injuries and the student was taken to the Department of Justice in Columbia.

Officials continue to seek the second offender and adult charges may be filed against both.
