Saying he was “sickened” by comments from the state president of the NAACP, Effingham County Commissioner Forrest Floyd grudgingly led a 3-2 vote to recognize an upcoming event sponsored by the local branch of the group.Floyd said he doesn’t agree with the comments Francys Johnson made on a recent radio show, but he does believe the four people to be honored at the Sept. 12 Freedom Fund and Honors Day are worthy of recognition.Johnson, a Statesboro lawyer, will be the speaker at the banquet in Guyton.Floyd voted for the proclamation at the Sept. 1 commission meeting, with the caveat that he doesn’t agree with Johnson’s statements.
