shabazz2Chatham County Commissioner Yusuf Shabazz has been scheduled for a Dec. 9 arraignment before a visiting judge on traffic charges that he allegedly left the scene of an accident with injuries, came back, identified himself, and then left again.Long County State Court Judge Jeffrey Arnold, who has been assigned to the case after Chatham County’s three State Court judges removed themselves, will hear the first action in the case since Shabazz’s lawyer moved the charges to trial court. An accusation filed by Assistant District Attorney Andre Pretorius, chief State Court prosecutor, on Oct. 14 charges Shabazz with three counts, including:

• Reckless driving on June 5 in a Ford Econoline van “refusing to stop his vehicle after being given verbal and visual commands to do so by Beverly Ferguson, who was directing traffic at the time of the incident.”
