Authorities in Chatham County arrested dozens of people for drinking and driving over the Labor Day weekend. According to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office website, 53 people were booked on driving under the influence (DUI) or driving with unlawful blood alcohol level charges between Friday and Monday evening. Many of the arrests were the result of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety’s annual ‘Hands Across the Border’ DUI enforcement campaign. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department Traffic Unit, the Georgia State Patrol and several other agencies partnered in targeting unlawful motorists for various traffic offenses, with an emphasis on impaired drivers. The Pooler Police Department also made several of the DUI arrests.
