city-council11Savannah’s city attorney has been quoted as saying that if the county chairman’s veto of the commissioners’ vote to end negotiations on the merger holds up, the merger agreement will be finalized.

But, the narrow 5-4 vote by commissioners which sought to end negotiations and begin formation of a separate department would be enough to override the chairman’s action.

City officials plan to vote on the proposal again at a meeting Thursday.

But the attorney general’s office may yet weigh in on the issue by tossing the county chairman’s veto.
