County chairman to veto vote ending police merger with city

al scottThe chairman of the Chatham County Board of Commissioners has announced he will veto the county’s vote last week to halt the police merger negotiations and began establishment of its own police department.

It’s not clear if the city council knew about Scott’s plan beforehand, but, if so, the vote by aldermen Friday to basically resubmit the city’s merger proposal to the county makes more sense.

Scott expressed his support of the city’s merger proposal before it was shot down by the county in a narrow 5-4 vote.
