Feds seek to pause civil lawsuit in Georgia gym mat death

(AP) — Federal prosecutors who have spent nearly two years investigating the death of a Georgia teenager found in a rolled-up gym mat at school are asking a judge for a six-month halt to evidence gathering in a civil lawsuit by the boy’s parents.Federal authorities announced an investigation into the death of 16-year-old Kendrick Johnson on Oct. 31, 2013, after sheriff’s investigators concluded he died in a freak accident. With the criminal case still unresolved, Johnson’s parents this year filed a wrongful death lawsuit that accuses two brothers of killing their son.
