Flood advisory set for South Carolina, Georgia

flood-advisoryA coastal flood advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. Friday morning to 1 p.m. this afternoon for low-lying coastal areas of south coastal South Carolina and north coastal Georgia including downtown Charleston and Fort Pulaski.

Tide levels are expected to peak from 7.1 to 7.4 feet mean lower water in Charleston harbor and 9.2 to 9.3 feet mean lower low water at Fort Pulaski.

Shallow salt water flooding will occur near high tide along the coast around the time of high tide this morning. High tide will occur around 10:47 a.m. in the Charleston harbor around 11:53 a.m. in the Beaufort River at Beaufort and around 10:52 a.m. at Fort Pulaski.

Inundation of saltwater in and near low-lying coastal areas could lead to some road closures and flooding of properties.

Affected areas include Beaufort, Charleston, coastal Colleton and coastal Jasper
