Georgia soldier among six killed in Afghanistan

A north Georgia soldier was killed in an aircraft crash in Afghanistan Friday.

herculesThe Department of Defense reported Saturday that six airmen supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel died Oct. 2 when a C-130J Super Hercules aircraft crashed at Jalalabad Airfield in Afghanistan.

Officials said that Airman 1st Class Kcey E. Ruiz, 21, of McDonough, was killed. He was assigned to the 66th Security Forces Squadron, Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts along with Senior Airman Nathan C. Sartain, 29, of Pensacola, Fla., who also died.

Also killed in the crash were four airmen assigned to the 39th Airlift Squadron, Dyess Air Force Base in Texas: Capt. Jonathan J. Golden, 33, of Camarillo, Calif.; Capt. Jordan B. Pierson, 28, of Abilene, Texas; Staff Sgt. Ryan D. Hammond, 26, of Moundsville, W.Va.; and Senior Airman Quinn L. Johnson-Harris, 21, of Milwaukee, Wis.
