Hundreds of tourism and hospitality industry professionals converged on Savannah this week to take part in talks and workshops that covered everything from technology to conflict resolution as well as Georgia’s new hotel-motel fee during the Governors Tourism Conference at the Hyatt Regency.“When you have an opportunity like we had this week to sort of recruit that many folks — folks that understand the importance of tourism marketing every day, and make a positive impression on them, I know that … will surely pay dividends for our destination for many years to come,” said Joe Marinelli, president of Visit Savannah. The four-day conference wrapped up Wednesday with the governor’s luncheon and awards ceremony. Speaking to a packed room, Gov. Nathan Deal said 2014 was a record-breaking year for Georgia with about $57 billion coming in from tourists who included 100 million domestic visitors, which was a 6 percent increase from 2013, and more than 850,000 foreign visitors, a 22 percent increase from 2013.
