Judge nixes separate trial for nurse in Ajibade case

gavel3A judge on Friday rejected a plea that he remove contract nurse Gregory Brown from trial with two former deputies charged in the death of Mathew Ajibade at the Chatham County jail.Chatham County Superior Court Judge James F. Bass Jr. rejected the prosecutor’s motion for severance and also rejected a defense plea that he remove perjury counts against former deputies Jason Kenny and Maxine Evans from the main case.Prosecutors argued that Brown’s lawyer, attorney Tom Withers, had served them with more than 1,000 pages of discovery containing years of restraint chair logs signed by sheriff’s personnel and Corizon Health nurses as part of his defense.
