A man walking through West Congress Lane who reached in his pocket for money to give a panhandler got a rude surprise when he was mugged by not one but two assailants.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Robbery Unit detectives have asked the public’s help in identifying the suspects who robbed and injured the man on the 400 block of West Congress Lane Monday night. At about 10:30 p.m. Metro responded to Memorial University Medical Center, where the 30-year-old victim sought treatment of non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the robbery. The robbery reportedly occurred at about 9 p.m. An unknown male subject approached the victim asking for a dollar. As the victim reached for his wallet, he was struck then beaten by another unknown subject. The suspects took the victim’s wallet then fled. Investigators believe there were at least two suspects in this case. One suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 30-40. The subject’s directions of travel are unknown.
