One-man crime wave targets store cash registers during business hours

Suspect ImageA lone bandit stole money from the cash registers of several retail businesses on the southside during business hours over the past 30 days.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Southside Precinct detectives have asked the public’s help in identifying the suspect who used hand tools to open cash registers in at least six stores.    

The suspect targeted stores in east Savannah and the Southside between Sept. 20 and Oct. 20. In each case hand tools were used to pry registers open during business hours.

The suspect stole money from Big Lots locations on Abercorn Street and on Victory Drive, Walmart Stores on Abercorn Street and on Montgomery Cross Road, Belk on the 7800 block of Abercorn Street and Dillard’s on the 14000 block of Abercorn Street.

The suspect is described as a black male, standing roughly 6-2 and weighing about 190 pounds.
