Savannah council approves East Broad apartments

SAVANNAH – The Savannah City Council unanimously approved a developer’s rezoning request Thursday for greater density to build a 69-unit apartment complex at East Broad Street, north of Park Avenue. Before approval, developer Gary Wiggin said he would consider concerns from residents and property owners about the complex’s appearance and scale as the final design is developed. “I feel comfortable we can achieve something that everybody’s happy with and it doesn’t affect the community,” he said. Wiggin said that he could not reduce the amount of units any further, as some residents suggested, and still have a viable development. He already decreased the original amount as much as possible while working with planning commission staff, he said.
