horseSEABROOK, S.C. – The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a horse from an apparent gunshot wound after the body was found Tuesday on Wimbee Landing Road in Seabrook.

A passerby reported the horse lying on its side and tied to a tree with rope about 4 p.m.  Deputies confirmed the horse was dead from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the head.

A veterinarian from Lowcountry Large Animal Veterinary Services who responded to examine the horse said it appeared to be between 12 and 13 years of age, female and poorly cared for.

Findings at the scene by sheriff’s office investigators indicate the horse was shot in another location and driven to Wimbee Landing Road. It is believed the animal was tied to the tree to pull it out of the trailer used to transport it.

Investigators also believe the horse was from the general area of Seabrook.
