Cannons booming, black powder muskets popping, snakes crawling and yarn being made on a spinning wheel were just some of the activities at Fort McAllister State Park Saturday. Visitors at the park’s annual Labor Day celebration could stop in a display of reptiles from Southeastern Reptile Rescue, use wooden toy guns to learn how to handle black powder muskets, watch a live musket or cannon firing or learn how to spin yarn from wool from Sarah Miller, assistant park manager. At midday Jason Carter, park manager, said he was pleased with the turnout. “It is not as much as I would like but considering everything else that is going on today it is pretty good,” he said.
