TYBEE ISLAND – It’s ultimately up to the Tybee city council, but if a task force has its way, cocktail umbrellas might be sighted less frequently on Tybee Island’s beaches. The group, appointed in the wake of a shooting at this year’s Orange Crush party, plans to make a formal suggestion that elected officials limit the areas where residents and visitors can drink in public. A majority of task force members approved a move by chairman Demery Bishop to give the council a recommendation “with provisions that consumption of alcoholic beverages … would be prohibited in specific public places as a needs to regulate traffic control, crowd control, and enhance overall public safety island-wide.”
