Three armed robberies reported in downtown Savannah

SAVANNAH – Three armed robberies have been reported in the past 24 hours in Savannah.

According to the Savannah Downtown Neighborhood Association, at approximately 11:45 p.m. Monday a robbery was reported at Johnson Square. The victims reported that they were walking through the square when they were approached by a person trying to get their attention. The suspect produced a weapon and demanded the man’s wallet. The suspect then demanded the woman’s wallet. At that point the male victim produced a weapon and began shooting at the suspect. The suspect returned fire and then began to flee. Upon responding, the police where given a description of the suspect, who was located a short time later. The suspect was arrested and charged with robbery and aggravated assault. No one was injured.

Then at midnight, a robbery of a business was reported in the 500 Block of East River Street. The victim advised that he was in his office going through his closing routine when two individuals came in with guns demanding money. It was reported that the suspects may have gained entrance through a door that was propped opened while employees where cleaning.  No injuries were reported.

The suspects were described as two black males. One was a dark skin black male, wearing a long short sleeved black shirt and a skull cap. The other was a brown skin black male, also wearing a long short sleeved black shirt and red skull cap.

Also at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, a robbery was reported in the 700 Block of Wheaton Street. The victim was at the register counting money when the suspect entered the business demanding money. The victim threw the register drawer at the suspect who reached down and grabbed its contents before fleeing from the business. That suspect was described as a black male with light brown eyes, wearing black pants, a black hoodie, white shoes, and with a RIP tattoo on his left hand armed with a black pistol.
