Tybee puts cigarette litter on display

TYBEE ISLAND – For Tim Arnold, a stroll along the beach doesn’t hold the same meaning that it does for the rest of us. For the past few years, the Tybee Island resident has used his regular beach walks to rid his city’s beach of litter and cigarette butts. Arnold says he’s collected thousands of cigarette butts since he and his wife began pulling them from the sand with the aid of a grabber. Until recently, his efforts went relatively unnoticed. But now anyone who wants to see an example of his work need only visit the Tybee Island Marine Science Center, where many of these disgusting remnants are now on display in a transparent sphere.
