JACKSONVILLE – Former U.S. Navy shipmates Randell Lee and John Myers were delighted to find the Jacksonville Maritime Heritage Center Saturday while on a trip to town for a reunion with their old crew. They were treated to everything from a meticulously built 15-foot long model of the USS Saratoga aircraft carrier to a haunting exhibit of the ill-fated Titanic at the storefront museum in the Jacksonville Landing. But their pleasure turned to puzzlement after learning that they would be among the last visitors to the 28-year-old museum. A lack of attendance and financial support caused the Jacksonville Maritime Museum Society to shutter its baby’s doors for good hours later.
